Kick-off meeting of EU GREENE project consortium partners held in Slovenia

On June 4 and 5, 2024, the GREENE Kick-Off Meeting was held in Slovenia (Bohinj), regarding the project No. 101129888 “SINGLE-GRAIN RE-ENGINEERED ND-FE-B PERMANENT MAGNETS”.

The meeting was attended by a consortium of 15 research organizations and enterprises from Slovenia, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Ukraine. There were also four industrial partners, including the world-renowned company BOSH, and the project coordinator was the Josef Stefan Institute (Ljubljana, Slovenia).
Plans and current tasks for the project for the next four years were formed. During these years, the partners will develop high-energy magnets based on Nd-Fe-B. They will be innovatively reengineered at the individual grain level to minimize the overall content of the rare earth element Nd, thereby reducing environmental impact and reducing dependence on supplies of this critical raw material from China.

VNTU was represented at the kick-off meeting by the Head of the Department, Doctor of Technical Sciences Oleksandr GRUSHKO, who created the appropriate prerequisites for VNTU’s participation in this project based on relevant scientific achievements, experience and established international cooperation, and the Ph.D., Associate Professor Inna KYRITSYA.
The tasks of VNTU, as a partner, are to study residual stresses and misfit deformations in certain compositions of polycrystalline Nd-Fe-B, to take into account the influence of structural and mechanical aspects of the systems on the local magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the studied material.
“GREENE” aims to develop important technologies, knowledge and materials within the EU, which will contribute to strengthening European independence and competitiveness of Europe in accordance with the needs of industry. It aims to achieve significant scientific results that will contribute to the growth of green technologies. Thus, the next four years will be crucial for research in the field of permanent magnets.
